Siggy Davis and her fantastic one-woman-show „Sirens“
Accompanied on piano by jazz legend Reggie Moore, Siggy conjures up some of the greatest female songwriters of our time – as only Siggy can!
Siggy Davis‘ expressive vocals combine soul and jazz elements in a unique way. She is a grandiose storyteller in the blues, soulful in jazz and soul ballads, virtuoso in jazz songs. Born as an army brat in Nuremberg and raised in New York, she has been on stage since she was a child. She studied at Howard University and excelled in musical and theater productions. Her film work includes roles in Spike Lee’s „Do the Right Thing“ and Mike Nichols‘ „Regarding Henry“.
Siggy Davis came into contact with the German theater and music scene on an international theater tour. She played leading roles at the Theater des Westens, the Bad Hersfeld Festival and the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, among others. At the 2012 International Lake Constance Festival, she took on the role of Selica in Giacomo Meyerbeer’s opera „Die Afrikanerin“ at the Theater Konstanz. As a jazz singer, she has performed with Nina Hagen, James Carter, Archie Shepp, Kim Clark, Omar Sosa, Charlie Mariano, Mari Ann Larsen and Joe Bowie, among others. With her jazz band, The Siggy Davis Quartet, she tours throughout Europe and is a regular guest of the Hannover Big Band, the Hessian Radio Orchestra and others.
Her new solo program „Sirens“ is a magical journey, a tribute to legendary jazz women, to some of the greatest singers – sirens like Judy Garland, Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington. Siggy Davis evokes these great women in her new autobiographical show, backed by jazz legend Reggie Moore on piano. Join us for an evening of music, theater and memories on a journey to the Island of Sirens.
